Railway Budget 2005-2006 Highlights
Following are the 74 highlights of the Railway Budget 2005-06 presented by the Railways Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, in Parliament on Saturday during his one hour 46 minute long speech.
- No rise in Freight rates, passenger fares.
- 46 new trains announced.
- Freight for Kerosene, LPG to be cut 3.7 percent and 2.7 percent respectively.
- No hike in parcel rates.
- Reservation counters to remain open from 4 am till 11.30 pm.
- Spot booking of vacant berths to be allowed.
- Internet ticket booking timing to be extended.
- 152 new reservation counters to be opened.
- Phonelines to rail service to be made available in villages.
- Railways currently run 9000 trains.
- Freight growth surpasses growth of economy.
